Do I have to make an emergency dental appointment?

Yes, you will be required to make an appointment to ensure that your emergency can be attended to in both a timely manner and when it is convenient for you.

What is considered an emergency?

An emergency is a dental problem that requires instant relief – including relief from pain, and/or discomfort. A dental emergency can also include damage or accidents relating to the teeth or mouth, even if the pain is presently tolerable.

What is an example of a dental emergency?

Common dental emergencies can include fractured teeth, broken teeth, intense pain around a single tooth, wisdom teeth pain, abscesses in the gum, swelling or general severe dental pain.

How can you minimise damage or reduce pain before seeing an emergency dentist?

While time is of the essence in a dental emergency, here are some tips for dealing with certain dental emergencies prior to coming in to one of our clinics:

  • Toothache or pain: Clean the area by rinsing your mouth with warm water, and brush/floss the area as best you can before seeing an emergency dentist.
  • Lost Tooth: If your tooth is knocked out, make sure to keep the tooth ( Place it in your mouth or in a glass of milk) and bring it in to our emergency dentist as soon as possible. This way we can maximise the likelihood that it can be re-implanted.
  • Wisdom Teeth: If a wisdom tooth is causing pain, we recommend the use of an ice pack to help relieve pain and bring down the swelling prior to coming into one of our clinics.
